FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: acoustooptical light modulator includes an acoustic line in form of a body with photoelastic properties and having the shape of a trapezoidal prism and a piezoelectric transducer which is deposited on the lateral face of the prism, the edge of which is the lateral side of the trapezium. The input of the piezoelectric transducer is connected to a controlled voltage source, and the lateral face of the prism opposite the face with the deposited piezoelectric transducer is polished. The piezoelectric transducer is a multielectrode periodic slow-wave structure, whose series of electrode geometric centres lies in the sound and light propagation plane. The input of the piezoelectric transducer lies on the side of the large base of the trapezium, and the value of the angle between the face with the deposited piezoelectric transducer and the opposite polished face is defined by the condition of reflection of sound waves from the polished face with subsequent propagation thereof in the opposite direction of the incident wave emitted by the piezoelectric transducer.

EFFECT: enabling operation in the microwave range with a wider frequency band of the control signal, as well as avoiding temperature stabilisation.
