FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to acousto-optics and laser engineering. Method of laser radiation modulation includes excitation in single crystal of KRE(WO4)2 group amplitude-modulated quasi-shear traveling acoustic wave. Wave is polarized orthogonally to axis Np and propagates in plane NmNg of crystal. Laser beam has self-wave polarization and propagates at the Bragg angle from 0.15 to 8 degrees to the wave front of the acoustic wave. Frequency of acoustic wave in light and sound conductor ensures phase matching condition for laser beam diffraction.

EFFECT: technical result consists in increase in piezoelectric transducer area, and reduction of power density on piezoelectric transducer, and reduction of its heating, as well as in creation of such geometry of AO-interaction in modulator, at which reduced control power and possibility to operate without additional efficiency losses with multimode or non-collinear radiation are realized.
