FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: modulator has a crystal light-acoustic line on whose face there is an ultrasonic radiator and two optical quality lateral faces for entrance and exit of said optical radiation. The light-acoustic line is made from a monoclinic crystal with a KR(WO4)2 structure, where R is a rare-earth element. The ultrasonic radiator is placed on the face of the crystal perpendicular to axis Ng of the ellipsoid of refraction indices of the crystal.

EFFECT: modulator can be used for high-power laser beams to achieve a high coefficient of diffraction.
