FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves determining in the investigated region and using a remote technique concentration of total suspended matter and chlorophyll, calculating the chlorophyll index Ichl from the ratio of concentration of chlorophyll to concentration of algae biomass, equal to concentration of total suspended matter minus concentration of inorganic suspended particles determined empirically, lchl=chl oc 3/(tsm clark - 0.25), where chl oc 3 is chlorophyll concentration, tsm dark is concentration of total suspended matter, and subsequent calculation of the depth of the top quasi-homogeneous layer Htql, equal to Htql=KIchl+B, where K and B are linear regression equation coefficients which are predetermined using a least-square technique for experimental values of the depth of the top quasi-homogeneous layer at several points of the investigated sea and a chlorophyll index value calculated from values of concentration of total suspended matter and chlorophyll determined at the same points using a remote technique.
EFFECT: invention simplifies the process, increases promptitude and information content of the method.
