ADVANCED DRIVE MECHANISM DESIGNED FOR DRUG DELIVERY DEVICES Russian patent published in 2012 - IPC A61M5/315

Abstract RU 2452521 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medical equipment, namely drive mechanisms applicable in drug delivery devices, particularly pen-type syringes wherein a portion of preset drug doses is available. Particularly, the present invention refers to such drug delivery devices wherein the user can activate the drug delivery device. The drive mechanism applicable in the drug delivery device comprises a body having a proximal and distal end, a drive member, a piston rod and a rotator. The drive member is built in the body in such a manner that the drive member is longitudinally movable, however not rotatable with respect to the body. The piston rod is not rotatable with respect to the body and has at least one set of teeth, operates, moves through the body and transmits efforts longitudinally onto a distal end of the drug delivery device. The rotator is engaged and released with the piston rod and engaged with the drive member, and engaged with the body. The rotator is specified in the following group: a tooth wheel with its axis engaged with the set of teeth of the piston rod, and a pulley comprising a belt and a wheel with its axis engaged with the set of teeth of the piston rod. When the drive member moves in a proximal direction with respect to the body, the rotator moves in a proximal direction with respect to the piston rod. When the drive member moves in a distal direction, said rotator moves in a distal direction thereby moving the piston rod in a distal direction of the device. An assembly available in the drug delivery device comprises said drive mechanism. The drug delivery device comprises said drive mechanism or said assembly. A method for making or setting the drug delivery device uses said drive mechanism or said assembly. Such drug delivery devices find application in cases when persons having no official medical training, i.e. patients have to introduce a precise and preset dose of the drug, such as heparin or insulin. Particularly such devices find application in cases when the drug is applied occasionally for a short or long period of time.

EFFECT: invention has a reliable structure, is easy-to-use in the fact that concerns part manipulations, user's comprehension of operating principles and required dose delivery; dose set is simple and precise.
