FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves exposing a photosensitive cell fitted with two electrodes to laser radiation, said photosensitive cell having the exposed interelectrode area inclined to the incident laser beam, wherein the line connecting the electrodes through the shortest distance is perpendicular to the plane of incidence of the laser radiation. The electric signal between the electrodes is measured and the sign of the circular polarisation of the laser radiation is determined from the polarity of the electric signal. The photosensitive cell used is a silver-palladium resistive film with specific surface resistance from 10 to 1000 Om/square. To obtain the maximum optoelectrical conversion coefficient, the silver-palladium resistive film lies at an angle of ±(60±5)° to the laser beam.
EFFECT: wider operating wavelength range.
