FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: acoustic level gauge has series-connected microprocessor, pulse generator, acoustic transducer and recording unit connected to the microprocessor. The acoustic transducer consists of an emitter and three receivers - two calibration receivers which are self-contained and can be raised and lowered by a given depth, and a measurement receiver. Each of the receivers is connected through a separate amplifier to the recording unit. The level gauge is further provided with a modem which is connected to the output of the recording unit and the microprocessor. The method of measuring the level of liquid and gas content of the tube space in a well involves emitting an acoustic pulse and picking up signals reflected from the surface of the liquid using the measurement receiver. The calibration receivers are further lowered into the well at a different depth and then used to pick up the signal as the acoustic pulse passes, after which said characteristics are determined using calculation formulas.
EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring propagation speed of the pulse owing to minimisation of temperature error.
