FIELD: ultrasonic equipment. SUBSTANCE: process suggests radiation and reception of ultrasonic pulses, formation of reference and measurement time intervals, their digital conversion with the aid of synchronization and counting pulses correspondingly and indication of distance from acoustic transmitter to measured level. Number of counting pulses in reference interval is stabilized to exclude random errors. Correction code is summed up with code of reference interval to avoid systematic errors during digital conversion of reference interval. Summary code is stored and averaged by number of actually received ultrasonic pulses that are in excess of specified threshold. Frequency of counting pulses is set depending on averaged code. Code of measurement interval is averaged independent of number of received reference pulses. Correction matrix of switches is connected in device to loading inputs of digital converter of reference interval. Unit stabilizing number of counting pulses is made in the form of adder- averager of code. Additional adder-averager of code is placed between output of digital converter of measurement interval and input of unit of digital indication. of distance.
