SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of assessing an image displaying a biological process based on a series of two or more images of the biological process recorded as a function of time, e.g., by a PET or SPECT scanner after adding a radioactive indicator. One or more kinetic parameters are first extracted by applying a pharmacokinetic model to the series of images of the biological process. The models employ additional data containing a predetermined range of kinetic parameters, and an input function or a blood cleaning function. Further, an iterative algorithm is applied in order to arrive at an upgraded series of images, e.g., by inserting an approximate image into the incomplete series of images using one or more kinetic parameters. After the stopping criterion is satisfied, the resultant image is finally assessed at the step, based on the modified series of images.
EFFECT: broader functional capabilities, particularly providing a reliable image, type of the parametric image displaying its core biological process based on a series of mages with missing data.
