FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: device contains a nonlinear resistor (1) designed in the form of a varistor column confined inside an insulation housing. The resistor (1) is fixed on the overhead line (OL) pole cross-arm (2) with the help of a bracket (3). In the second version a pedestal insulator (9) is additionally mounted on the bracket (9). The spark gap (4) is formed: in the first version - between the OL wire (5) and the discharge electrode (7) at the lower flange (8) of the resistor (1), in the second version - between the first discharge electrode (10) and the second discharge electrode (7) represented by a metal tore. The electrode (10) is mounted on the lower flange (8) of the resistor (1). In the first version the electrode (7) is extended in the direction perpendicular to the wire (5), in the second version - in the resistor direction (1). The sizes of the spark gap (4) and the electrode (7) and the electric parameters of the nonlinear resistor jointly satisfy the ratios set forth in the description. The OL equipped with such thunderstorm protection device is considerably less likely to be subject to lightning outage in case of the OL passage across regions with poorly conductive soils.

EFFECT: enhanced reliability and feasibility of overhead line thunderstorm protection.
