FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: silica gel materials such as fibre, nonwoven material, powder, monolith and/or coating are used, for example, in medical technology and/or medicine, primarily for treating wounds. The material is obtained using a method involving acid-catalysed hydrolytic condensation of silicon compounds of the type SiX4, for example, tetraethoxysilane, in the presence of a water-soluble solvent for not less than 16 hours (preferably 3 to 8 days), followed by evaporation to obtain a single-phase solution, cooling to 4°C and kinetically controlled ageing. The ready single-phase solution is suitable for spinning fibres.
EFFECT: obtaining a non-toxic biodegradable single-phase material which is completely suitable for producing fibres.
