FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a novel method of producing alkoxylated alkylamines or alkoxylated ether amines of formula (I) with a narrow distribution, using a catalyst containing a multicharged counterion. Said method involves a first step for reacting a primary alkylamine with alkylene oxide at temperature from 150 to 190°C to obtain a first intermediate product (III), followed by a second step for reacting the intermediate product (III) with (m) additional moles of alkylene oxide in the presence of a catalyst containing a multicharged counterion to obtain the required end product - ethoxylated alkyl (ether) amine (I), , where R is selected from a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated alkyl group containing 8-22 carbon atoms or a group of formula: R-O-(A)a-(B)b-(C)c-, where A, B, X, Y are alkylene oxide groups containing 2-4 carbon atoms; C is an alkylene group containing 3-4 carbon atoms; a, b each varies from 0 to 5; c is equal to 1; x is equal to 1; each y independently varies from 1 to 15; n moles of alkylene oxide are equal to 2; m moles of alkylene oxide are equal to 1-18.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain alkoxylated amines with a narrow distribution and minimise shortcomings of the existing method, associated with acid-catalysed ethoxylation.
