SUBSTANCE: series of steps to complete a specific task involving a plurality of computer applications is recorded. The addition of steps, some of which involve different computer applications, and the addition of steps, some of which do not involve the use of a computer application or a computer system, is allowed. Addition to annotation steps from the user is allowed. User input or interaction for the application assistant to proceed is required. A series of steps, annotations and the required user input or interaction are stored as an application assistant entity using a unique name along with associated descriptive information about the entity and estimated completion times associated with each step, in an application assistant repository in a computer system. Sharing of the application assistant entity from said repository with other users is allowed, wherein the application assistant entity can be shared with other users who in turn can choose to update the application assistant entity for their use.
