FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: device enables to split waveguide modes with orthogonal polarisation in optical communication systems which facilitate separate processing of information signals based on orthogonal polarisation components of radiation. The polarisation splitter is an asymmetric Y-splitter based on channel waveguides in glass obtained via an ion exchange technique. A portion of the surface of the Y-splitter in the region of polarisation splitting is coated with a high-refracting dielectric film of given thickness and variable width. This design of the splitter simplifies manufacture of the device and increases the isolation ratio.
EFFECT: high isolation ratio of an asymmetric integrated optical polarisation splitter and easier manufacture of the device.
