FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of optical data transmission. Method of making a polariser, in which an optical waveguide is formed on a substrate using a semiconductor device manufacturing process, wherein the structure and dimensions of the optical waveguide are formed so as to provide support for the required polarisation mode of the propagating light radiation in accordance with the required operating wavelength. Sequence of bends is formed in said waveguide during the manufacture of the semiconductor device, while ensuring the shape and dimensions of the bends in such a way that the required polarisation mode is contained in the waveguide, and a second polarisation mode is radiated outward from the waveguide; wherein the predetermined polarisation mode is a transverse electric (TE) mode, and the second polarization mode is a transverse magnetic (TM) mode. Light-absorbing material is placed on the substrate around the waveguide and bends of the waveguide.
EFFECT: technical result consists in the formation of a polarisation component with a waveguide structure that ensures low losses for the TE polarisation mode and high losses for the TM polarisation mode.
