FIELD: integral and gradient optics. SUBSTANCE: method for making planar waveguiding light polarizer includes producing a flat plate of alkali-bearing oxide glass with optical stress coefficient exceeding 3 Br. Then ion exchange is carried out in melts of alkali metal salts with radius of alkali ions exceeding radius of glass alkali ions with temperature less than glass-transition temperature. Time of treatment is within t1 up to t2, where t1 is time corresponding to start of increasing refraction index, and formation of waveguide layer for TM polarization, t2 is time corresponding to start of increasing refraction index, and formation of waveguide layer for TE polarization. EFFECT: use of described method provides simplification in making planar waveguide light polarization on glass, increases technological effectiveness when making, and efficiency of polarization selection. 3 dwg
