FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for forced air cooling of accelerating-braking resistor units (ABRU) of electric locomotive with commutator traction motors (TM) operating from high-voltage overhead wiring of direct current with voltage of 3000 V. Air cooling method of ABRU involves current supply to electric motor and formation of instructions; at that control of electric motor rotation frequency is performed depending on value of anchor current of pair of TM. Formation of control current is performed as per linear dependence from anchor current so that smooth restriction of anchor current is provided through cold resistors at switching of ABRU sections in all rheostatic control modes and during transitions from rheostatic mode to the running mode and vice versa; value of anchor currents of electric motor is recorded; minimum and maximum values of anchor current are determined. Electric motor current is reduced or increased for protection against overheating. State of ABRU cooling system is diagnosed and information is transferred from sensors of cooling system to upper control level in order to take corrective actions.
EFFECT: higher reliability and quality of cooling of accelerating-braking resistor units of electric locomotive, reduction of power consumption and improvement of dimension-and-weight characteristics of electric motor and the system as a whole; reduction of electromagnetic interferences and effect of cooling system on anchor current of traction motors in all modes of rheistatic control and during transitions from rheostatic mode to running mode and vice versa; protection of EDM against overheating.
