FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method to produce an electric insulation coating of transformer steel includes preparation of a suspension for application of a coating onto transformer steel surface by submersion or spraying, application of the suspension onto the transformer steel and formation of the electric insulation coating by thermal treatment at the temperature of 750 - 850°C in the protective nitrogen-hydrogen atmosphere with simultaneous stretching of a steel strip with force of 45 - 50 kgf/cm2. To apply the electric insulation coating, a suspension of the following composition is used, wt %: talc (Mg3[Si4O10](OH)2) or nepheline (Na2Al2Si2O8) - 15, boric acid (H3BO3) - 5, orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4) - 8, water - balance.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to produce transformer steel with an electric insulation coating of high quality, to eliminate hazardous and harmful conditions when preparing and applying a suspension and forming a coating.
