SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of: identifying a data packet network gateway; determining the address of a mobile Internet protocol local agent from the identified data packet network gateway if the mobile Internet protocol local agent is located together with the identified data packet network, or from another data packet network gateway if the mobile Internet protocol local agent is not located together with the identified data packet network; wherein determination of the address of the mobile Internet protocol local agent includes steps of: sending one or more messages to the identified data packet network gateway, including corresponding requests for the address of the mobile Internet protocol local agent; and receiving from the data packet network gateway information associated with the address of the mobile Internet protocol local agent in response to that one or more messages.

EFFECT: easy detection of the IP address of a local agent in wireless networks owing to that a mobile device in the network does not need to know the global address of its reference point or local agent when located in the home network.
