FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalysts for low-temperature oxidation of carbon monoxide (CO), a method of oxidising CO in order to protect the environment from CO pollution. Described is a catalyst for oxidising carbon monoxide, which contains palladium which is deposited on an iron-containing oxide composition, and method of preparing said catalyst, as a result of which an iron-containing oxide composition is obtained, which is FeOOH characterised by specific surface area of (250±20) m2/g and moisture capacity of (0.70±0.05) ml/g, or Fe2O3 characterised by specific surface area of (50±5) m2/g and moisture capacity of (0.53±0.05) ml/g. Palladium content is equal to 0.25-1.0 wt %. Oxidation of carbon monoxide is carried out in the presence or absence of water in a reaction mixture using the catalyst described above. Concentration of carbon monoxide in the reaction mixture is not higher than 100 ppm.
EFFECT: complete oxidation of carbon monoxide at room temperature and corresponding moisture content.
