FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: method of scrolling through elements in a computing environment involves detecting holding down of a directional button; scrolling through a set of items in a direction corresponding to the directional button with a first rate of scrolling; entering the turbo-scrolling mode in response to determination that holding down of the directional button continues for a threshold time, and determining that the set of items includes at least one threshold number of items, stopping scrolling through the set of items in response to detection of release of the directional button; activating direction correction mode for a certain period of time after releasing the directional button, and exiting the turbo-scrolling mode to allow scrolling with the first rate of scrolling both in the direction corresponding to the directional button and in another direction corresponding to another directional button, if scrolling does not resume within a certain period of time.
EFFECT: faster search of content items in large volumes of content by changing scrolling modes for different types of content and content volume, especially by remote control.
