SUBSTANCE: invention is related to nanotechnology. Homogeneous nanoparticles of nickel are coated with a shell made of carbon layers. Nickel nanoparticles have a spherical shape and size of 4-5 nm. To produce homogeneous nanoparticles of nickel coated with a shell, normal nickel maleate or acid nickel maleate are exposed to thermal decomposition in an inertial atmosphere. Thermal decomposition is carried out during heating to temperature of 450 °C, then the product is cooled in an inertial atmosphere.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to produce homogeneous nanoparticles of nickel with narrow area of distribution by size, which are coated with carbon layers, close in morphology to graphene layers.
