FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: when determining concentration of hydrogen, the device used has a Penning pump connected to a power supply and linked to a vacuum chamber, separated from the controlled medium by a hydrogen-permeable diaphragm, wherein according to the invention, the vacuum chamber is additionally fitted with a vacuum metre; when the power supply of the Penning pump is switched on, its current is recorded; the power supply of the Penning pump is then switched off for a time sufficient to achieve equilibrium pressure in the vacuum chamber; equilibrium pressure is determined from the readings of the vacuum metre, from which concentration of hydrogen is calculated and the power supply of the Penning pump is switched to a constant operating mode, and conformity of current of the Penning pump to concentration of hydrogen is established by comparison thereof. Also, comparison of the current of the pump with the calculated concentration of hydrogen is carried out at different concentrations of hydrogen in the operating range and a calibrated curve of current of the pump versus concentration of hydrogen is plotted based on the obtained results.

EFFECT: high reliability of monitoring, for example, the state of heat-exchange equipment of a nuclear power plant, and simple procedure of calibrating hydrogen concentration systems.
