FIELD: ship building.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method comprises varying external magnetic field acting in ship vertical axis by forced heeling, measuring increments of electric signals from magnetometric transducers secured to ship body included in multi-transducer magnetic field control system and defining vertical component of terrestrial magnetic field proceeding from obtained measurement results. Forced heeling is performed along ship vertical axis in static conditions using ballast tanks to orient the ship axis in wets-east direction. For this, the ship is heeled in turns to both sides to reach maximum tolerable angle between terrestrial field vector direction and ship center plane and maximum tolerable heel angle. Note here that electric signal increments are measured from total signal of aforesaid transducers.
