FIELD: measurement equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear engineering, namely, to the field of radiation monitoring, and may be used in machine building, medicine and other industries for monitoring of unauthorised movement of nuclear materials and other radioactive substances. The substance of the invention consists in the fact that a standard sample is a source in the form of a nuclear material or a radioactive substance with an arbitrary flow of radiation F, the average value is found for the total count K of the background KF and additional radiation, registered with a unit of detection, by comparison of probability to detect p, determined from binomial distribution of probability to detect a source of radiation in the form of a nuclear material or a radioactive substance and integral probability pk(K) of a number of counts k of a unit of radiation monitor detection, the value of the threshold flow of radiation Fthres is found on the basis of the following expression: where: L - threshold of registration, determined on the basis of the determined probability of false alarms and background KF.
EFFECT: reduced error in detection of a threshold for determination of a radiation monitor using a source with an arbitrary flow of radiation.
