FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to detection of ionizing radiation sources. Essence of the invention consists in that the method of detecting a Poisson signal in Poisson noise includes setting the required level of probabilities of false alarms, measuring the background count of particles and calculating the average for a given exposure time of said particle count, calculating the threshold of operation of the alarm device, measuring the count of particles for the said exposure time in the presence of an object in the monitoring zone, comparing said change with the threshold and announcing the alarm in case the threshold is exceeded, wherein the presence of a Poisson signal in Poisson noise is calculated using the trend criterion function.
EFFECT: invention can be used for radiation control of fissionable materials during their unauthorized movement.
