FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of radiation monitoring (RM). Essence of the invention consists in the fact that the method of detection and localization of mobile sources of ionizing radiation (IRS) in the control zone further comprises the steps at which the UD is located in such a way that the control half-plane, the continuation of the bisector plane of the above-mentioned dihedral angle, crosses the trajectory of movement of the objects being monitored in the control zone, producing the DETECTION signal when the condition |Δn(t)|>Keff⋅|±3 σ(tb)|, where keff>1 is the efficiency coefficient of the detection criterion, σ(tb) – standard deviation of the signal Δn(tb), averaged over time tb, which is sufficient to obtain statistics of the required quality, in the time intervals when there is no detection signal, the side from which the test object approaches with the detected IRS is determined according to the sign of the signal Δn(t), the maximum modulus of the rate of change of the difference signal max|dΔn(t)/dt|1 before changing its sign and max|dΔn/dt|2 – after the change and the LOCALIZATION signal are worked out (the time of intersection of the detected source of the control zone) after changing the sign of the differential signal Δn(t) and when the condition max|dΔn(t)/dt|2 > max|dΔn(t)/dt|1 is fulfilled.
EFFECT: increase the probability of early detection of sources of IRS.
