FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mining industry when exploring rocks. The method involves placing seismic locators on the earth's surface outside the scanning area, focusing radiation and receiving seismic waves through said locators. Each of the locators consists of a radiation areal aperture and a receiving areal aperture, in which radiation and receiving points are uniformly arranged, respectively. According to the invention, for each given point of scanning the investigated rock mass, a three-dimensional matrix of values of energy of scattered waves is obtained and an azimuthal vector diagram of the normalised energy of scattered waves is constructed. In this diagram, the direction of vectors is perpendicular to the scanning beams of the locators passing from the centre of the receiving aperture of each locator to the given point, and the scalar value of the vector is equal to the normalised energy of the scattered wave. Said diagram is identified with a fracturing rose diagram, in which the principal direction is the vector with the maximum value of the scattered wave, and the secondary directions are vectors with minimum values of the energy of the scattered wave.
EFFECT: high information content owing to the possibility of detecting differently directed fracturing in a geologic environment.
