FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: segment of K-wire 150 mm long is fixed; circular notches of depth 0.5 cm and pitch 10 mm are made on patient's skin on an external shoulder surface at the level of head of humerus from the intact side. The K-wire length and the diametre of head of humerus are measured on an X-ray image. The K-wire length on the X-ray image is accepted as L1. The actual K-wire length is taken as L2. A magnification range on the X-ray image is accepted as S. The magnification range on the X-ray image is calculated by formula: S=L1/L2. The diametre of head of humerus on the X-ray image is accepted as D1. An actual size of head of humerus is calculated by formula: D2=D1/S.

EFFECT: method enables more accurate sizing of the shoulder endoprosthesis at the level of preoperative planning by the X-ray images of an intact shoulder joint, reducing length of the operation and a potential risk of postoperative complications.
