FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radar and can be used in surveillance radar stations. The decision on detection of a target is made based on combined use of signals at the output of a moving target selection system and a non-coherent storage. In the element of the surveillance area in which the detection threshold was exceeded at the output of the non-coherent storage, the ratio of the value of the signal-to-noise ratio at the output of the moving target selection system to the value of the signal-to-noise ratio at the output of the non-coherent storage is calculated, which is then compared with a threshold value which is set based on the level of the amplitude-velocity characteristic of the moving target selection system in one of the non-zero "breakdowns", selected based on minimum loss on targets falling in the amplitude-velocity characteristic "breakdowns".
EFFECT: reduced loss in detecting targets moving at velocities corresponding to "breakdowns" of the amplitude-velocity characteristic in the moving target selection system.
