FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: corundum articles made using the disclosed method can be used as armoured ceramic elements for making individual and transportation means of protection, and as insulators and substrates for electronic equipment. Workpieces moulded from aluminium oxide powder are sintered during two heat treatment cycles. At the end of each cycle, the workpieces are completely cooled and re-laid. The first cycle is carried out in an oxidative medium at temperature of 1560-1620°C and the second is carried out in hydrogen at temperature of 1620-1700°C.
EFFECT: high density and microhardness of corundum articles, which enables to improve ballistic properties of armoured ceramics.
