FIELD: information technologies.

SUBSTANCE: for femto cells in a wireless communication environment codes of a downlink may be selected autonomously. Downlink communication transfers are received from home nodes B, which are adjacent to a femto cell and macrocell basic stations located near a femto cell. Transfers of communication downlink are assessed to recognise the first set of detected codes of a downlink, every of which has energy of a pilot signal above a pre-determined detection threshold. The optimal code of the downlink is selected for use applicably to serviced user equipment of a femto cell and is based on the first set of detected codes of the downlink reserved for a femto cell. The optimal code of the downlink may be an accessible code of the communication downlink with a lowest value of detected energy, or a downlink code selected randomly from available codes of the communication downlink.
