FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention is applicable for treating conditions characterised by polyuria. What is presented is a method for urine production modulation wherein desmopressin is applied on patient's skin or introduced percutaneously at a first flow rate sufficient to determine the blood desmopressin concentration within the range of 0.2 to 5 pcg/ml, but not sufficient to determine the blood desmopressin concentration more than 5 pcg/kg thereby reducing urine production in the patient. Then, desmopressin is introduced at a second lower flow rate sufficient to maintaing the blood desmopressin concentration within the specified range for max. approximately 7 hours. Then, the desmopression introduction is terminated thereby recovering urine production within approximately two hours termination. There are also presented devices for urine production modulation comprising a depot containing a desmopressin solution in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, an element providing a skin contact surface connected through a liquid for application on patient's skin and an agent for desmopressin delivery from the depot to the element.
EFFECT: invention enables fast recovery of the normal urine production following termination of the desmopressin flow ensured by adjusting a flow rate and a delivery length.
