FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of producing nuclear fuel for power reactors, and particularly to processes of producing uranium dioxide powder for making fuel rods. The method of producing uranium dioxide powder, which contains a burnable absorber, involves decomposition of sprayed uranium nitrate solution, containing a starting component of the burnable absorber, in a stream of a plasma coolant in the presence of a reducing agent, and separating the end product from the obtained dust and gas mixture, the starting component of the burnable absorber added to the solution being boric acid.

EFFECT: invention enables to obtain uranium dioxide powder which is sintered with boron, with given boron content, and provides full output of boron into the powder.
