FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention describes a method for prediction of a risk of developing diabetic retinopathy accompanying type 2 diabetes mellitus in Yakut males involving DNA recovery from peripheral venous blood lymphocytes, differing by the fact specificity of a tumour necrosis factor alpha TNF-α gene is amplified; polymerase chain reaction is used for DNA synthesis; and if detecting the *T/*T genotype of a polymorph version - 1031 T/C of the tumour necrosis factor alpha TNF-α gene, a risk of developing diabetic retinopathy is predicted.

EFFECT: method provides detecting a risk group of diabetic retinopathy accompanying type 2 diabetes mellitus in Yakut males for the purpose of specifying a further preventive and therapeutic approach.
