SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to medical diagnostics, and can be used to predict the risk of developing diabetic retinopathy in men with type 2 diabetes. A sample of peripheral venous blood is taken. After DNA extraction, a polymorphic variant of the small GTPase gene RAC1 rs836478 (C>T) is analyzed. If the rs836478-T/T genotype is detected, an increased risk of developing diabetic retinopathy in men with type 2 diabetes is predicted. When genotypes rs836478-C/T and rs836478-C/C are detected, a low risk of developing diabetic retinopathy in men with type 2 diabetes is predicted.
EFFECT: method provides for obtaining new criteria for assessing the risk of developing diabetic retinopathy in men of Slavic ethnicity with type 2 diabetes mellitus according to the genetic polymorphism rs836478 (C>T).
