FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: network component has a processor which analyses a path reservation message comprising a reserved path identifier, analyses a plurality of frames, each comprising a path identifier, and diverts at least some of the frames away from a router, wherein the path identifier in the diverted frames matches the reserved path identifier. Included is a system comprising a packet-aware transport box configured to receive a plurality of frames destined for a first router, snoop the frames, determine whether at least some of the frames should bypass the first router, and forward any frames which should bypass the first router to a second router without passing the frames to the first router.
EFFECT: higher volume of traffic processed by a router without the need to increase its traffic capacity.
