TECHNOLOGIES USING OSPF FOR PROVIDING MAXIMUM DEPTH OF NODE AND/OR COMMUNICATION LINK SEGMENT IDENTIFIER Russian patent published in 2019 - IPC H04L12/721 H04L12/717 H04L12/723

Abstract RU 2704714 C1

FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to providing a maximum depth of node and/or communication link segment identifier using an open shortest path first (OSPF) routing protocol. To achieve technical result, a network element in a network with segmented routing (SR) support transmits a "type-length-value" (TLV) element, which includes a maximum segment identifier depth (MSD) value using OSPF. MSD value identifies the maximum number of segment identifier (SID) labels that the network element can insert into packet headers of received packets to enable forwarding received packets over the SR network. Network element receives data from the controller for the path to be used by the network element to forward received packets over the SR network. Data includes one or more SID marks for insertion into received packets, and number of SID marks is less than or equal to MSD value.

EFFECT: possibility to report value of MSD back to controller using label distribution protocol (LDP), such as an OSPF protocol or intermediate system routing protocol (IS-IS), thereby eliminating the need to use a path computation element communication protocol (PCEP).
