FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to welding and may be used for friction welding of, for example, rails, tubes, rods, etc. Bed with part supports accommodates intermediate insert gripping mechanism to transfer said insert relative to parts to be welded and part clamping mechanism composed of two pairs of jaws. Surfaces of said jaws in contact with parts are shaped to make a support for parts. Surfaces of said jaws adjoining said shaped surfaces are provided with recess communicated with said support and shaped similarly to the shape of jar surfaces.
EFFECT: recesses form high-pressure chamber to be filled with plasticised material to create overpressure to add to seam strength.
