FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: method involves authentication of protected documents, particularly banknotes, having security features (41-49; 30; 10; 51, 52), printed on the protected documents or superimposed or deposited thereon using another method and having characteristic visual features inherent to processes used to make the protected documents. A sample image (c0) of at least one region (R.o.l) of interest of the surface of the inspected document which covers at least part of said security features is obtained; said sample image (c0) undergoes digital processing by decomposing said sample image (c0) into at least one scaled subspace containing details (d1 1, d1 2, d1 3…) with high resolution of the sample image (c0); classification features (σ2, C…) are extracted from said scaled subspace and the authentication coefficient of the inspected document is calculated based on the extracted classification features (σ2, C…).
EFFECT: high accuracy of authentication.
