SUBSTANCE: in the method, metadata are read from a data medium and then stored in a reproducing device. The metadata are used to search for the required audiovisual data from audiovisual data stored on the data medium. The metadata contain a volume identifier which indicates the volume, which consists of a plurality of discs, used to create a disc library. The metadata also contain a first element which indicates the number of discs making the volume, and a second element which indicates the index number of the data medium in that volume.
EFFECT: saving storage space and high efficiency of search.
