FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of forming smokescreens and more specifically to aerosol-forming compositions used as a smoke-forming material for ammunition, during combustion of which a masking aerosol cloud forms in the atmosphere. The composition for forming a smokescreen contains the following, wt %: red phosphorus 64-72, an oxidant - ammonium or potassium nitrate 19-23, a flame extinguisher - carbamide or thiourea 7-10 and a process additive - liquid chlorinated paraffin wax 2-3. The invention is self-sufficient for operation as a pyrotechnical slow-burning composition which is inflammable by ordinary heat pulse sources, having a stable combustion rate (0.2-0.3 mm/s), which is necessary for a prolonged smokescreen without the arch effect of the aerosol cloud.

EFFECT: composition is easy to manufacture and process, and is non-toxic in its intended application.
