FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing an alcohol solution of an alkali metal alcoholate, which can be used in synthesis of pharmaceutical and agrochemical active substances and as a re-esterification and amidation catalyst. The alcohol solution of an alkali metal alcoholate is obtained from an alkali metal hydroxide and aliphatic alcohols having 1-5 carbon atoms in a reaction column with counterflow of the alcohol and alkali metal hydroxide, wherein reflux ratio of at least 0.05 is established in the reaction column.
EFFECT: disclosed method avoids deposition of solid substance in the area of the reaction column below the feed point of the alkali metal hydroxide solution.
