FIELD: alcohol industry. SUBSTANCE: alcohol-containing mixture is boiled in the bottom part of epuration column, potassium permanganate is added, and epuration and dephlegmation are carried out in a process where a part of condensate is returned in the form of phlegm into the reflux epuration column. In the epurate recovery line, at least one additional buffer vessel with conical bottom is installed, its total volume constituting at least one volume of the bottom part of epuration column involved. Into this, aqueous solutions of alkali agent, potassium permanganate, and barium hydroxide are simultaneously introduced at weight ratio (0.5- 1.5):(0.05-0.156): (0.01-0.03) with total amount not exceeding 2.0 g of solids per 1 cu.dm of absolute alcohol. Concentration of potassium permanganate aqueous solution in the total stream is maintained at a level not exceeding 0.2 wt %, while epuration procedure is accompanied by bleeding distillate in amount (taking into account absolute alcohol) no higher than 10 wt % with regard to feeding stream.
