FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: what is presented is 3D reconstruction of a body and a body contour from transversally flattened projections with the use of a polyhedral individual model. Potential clinical applications cover targeted biopsy in data collection systems provided with a flat-panel detector if the flattened projections occur to be unavoidable in scan protocols of chest and abdominal cavity. Rotation generates a three-dimensional (3D) solid structure and reconstruction of a surface mesh for patient's body contour with simultaneous visualisation to help a doctor in biopsy apparatus operation, as well as in measurement of patient's skin to tissue of interest distance inside the reconstructed space.
EFFECT: improved operation for biopsy needle directing in a required place into tissues for improved biopsy operation.
