FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: steel structure consists of 50 - 90 % bainite and residual austenite; at that, excess carbon is contained in bainitic ferrite with thickness of bainitic plates of 100 nm or less in the concentration exceeding equilibrium concentration and partially in residual austenite. Steel contains the following, wt %: carbon 0.6% to 1.1%, manganese 0.3 to 1.5%, nickel 3%, chrome 0.5% to 1.5%, molybdenum 0% to 0.5%, vanadium 0% to 0.2%, silicon 0.5% to 2% and iron is the rest, excluding unintentional impurities; steel is cooled rather quickly to prevent formation of pearlite from the temperature exceeding the temperature of its austenitic conversion to the temperature above martensitic conversion beginning temperature, but which is equal to or below 260°C. Steel is exposed within the above range during 8 hours to one week to ensure bainitic conversion. Prior to bainitic conversion, steel is cooled to completely pearlitic state and again heated to austenitic state one ore several times.
EFFECT: steel is cost-effective and easy-to-process and has high hardness and ballistic resistance.
