FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: device has a bypass element having at least two opposite contact levers and at least one bypass conductor which is electrically connected to the contact levers. The contact levers are in form of wedges. The device can have a clamping element consisting of a frame and at least two opposite pressure elements. The clamping element is capable of gripping the bypass element such that each pressure element rests on each contact lever, and when contact levers move relative the clamping element, each pressure element presses the corresponding contact lever to conductors inserted between the contact levers to form and fix a short-circuit. Disclosed also is a method of short-circuiting one electrolysis cell in a series of electrolysis cells using said device.
EFFECT: invention enables to short-circuit electrolysis cells with high amperage.
