SUBSTANCE: in the method and apparatus, unnecessarily bright light from each scene zone is reduced to a level normal for eyesight, while realising in elements of a light-protective modulator placed in front of eyes, compensating values of optical transmission selectively for all zones. In the method and apparatus, an auxiliary optical modulator is made half-tone. The auxiliary optical modulator enables to carry out an iteration process of zonal compression of the dynamic range of light brightness between local regions, coming from the scene into the aperture of the measuring photodetector, operation of which is invariable on the linear section of the transfer characteristic at the operating point with maximum slope.
EFFECT: wider dynamic range and high accuracy of adaptation.
