FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: method involves supply to an absorption chamber of gaseous working medium, creation in it of an optic plasma nucleus, its focusing through a gas dynamic opening and initiating a continuous optic discharge, heating of the working medium using it, creation of jet thrust, due to efflux of the working medium from the nozzle; at that, laser emission is first supplied through a solid opening that is transparent for the specified emission wave length to a preliminary tight chamber interconnected with the absorption chamber of laser rocket engine, and reflection of laser emission and its focusing through the gas dynamic opening is performed inside the above described preliminary tight chamber, inside which pressure is created, which is higher than that in the absorption chamber. The working medium is used for cooling of the solid opening. Laser rocket engine includes a system of turning reflecting mirrors (external and internal) and a focusing mirror, the absorption chamber with gas dynamic opening 6 and supersonic nozzle, a working medium supply system - a header and a cooling circuit. The absorption chamber with the gas dynamic opening, inner turning reflecting mirror and focusing mirror are located inside the preliminary tight chamber, on the surface of which there is a solid opening transparent for the specified wave length of laser emission. An external turning reflecting mirror is located on the outside of the preliminary tight chamber before the solid opening.
EFFECT: invention allows increasing the efficiency and specific pulse of laser rocket engine.
