FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: laser rocket engine with electrostatic acceleration of the working medium belongs to the field of rocket engines for accelerating rocket and space technology using laser radiation. Electrostatic acceleration of the working fluid, contains a working medium, which receives laser radiation of high power density, sufficient for the ionization of the working fluid, and the working medium supply system. It differs in that on a surface that has the ability to create electrostatic charges to accelerate the ions of the working medium and their subsequent discarding, laser radiation of low power density, sufficient for electron emission, is fed.
EFFECT: use of the proposed device allows, thanks to electron emission under the action of laser radiation, to create electrostatic charges to accelerate the ionized working medium, that provides a significant increase in the rate of flow of the working medium, comparable to the electric motors, and reduce the cost of shipping costs for the required trajectory.
